Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II has congratulated Governor Godwin Obaseki on his re-election.
The congratulatory message was contained in a statement signed by the Benin Traditional Council’s press secretary, Frank Irabor on behalf of the Benin monarch 48 hours after Governor Obaseki was declared winner of the September 19 Edo Gubernatorial Election by INEC.
In the statement, Irabor said prior to the election, Oba Ewuare II had on numerous occasions maintained his non-partisanship and will uphold the will of the people.
“As His Royal Majesty said on numerous occasions, the Benin Throne is non- partisan that on election day let the people speak because the voice of the people is the voice of God.”
Frank expressed the Benin monarch’s gratitude to the president, security agents, Edo state people, political parties and all stakeholders that initiated the peace pact to keep the electoral process violence free.
“His Royal Majesty urges all good people of Edo state to support the Governor in his development strides in other to take Edo State to the next level.”
“The Omo N’Oba N’Edo thanks His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces in Nigeria, for ensuring that the Edo State election was free, fair and violent-free”
“The monarch also thanked all the candidates of the political parties for adhering to the advice for a violent-free election giving to them during the peace meeting in the Oba’s Palace which has been widely acclaimed to have doused the tension that was building up before the election.”
“The National Peace Commission headed by H.E Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar Rtd, GCFR, is appreciated for d signing of d peace accord among d gubernatorial candidates, Furthermore, INEC headed by Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, is also commended for a successful n peaceful election in d State.”
