Corona virus, Joe Biden, Davido, Kobe Bryant, and Martinis topped the results of Google 2020 Year-in Search. Also, the ongoing ASUU strike is among the to trending searches and questions in Nigeria.
This was announced in a press statement by the Communication Officer, Google’s West Africa, Mr Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade. He said Google’s 2020 Year-in Search complied the moments, people, topics, and events that attracted World’s attention in the year.
Kola- Ogunlade said from overall global stories to hundreds of top 10 lists of trending topics across pop culture and lifestyle, sports, music, news, and more from across almost 70 countries. He said Corona virus was top on everybody’s mind this 2020.
Other trending global search included election results, zoom, India Vs New Zealand, Google classrooms, Naira Marley, among others. He listed other trending searches as recipes, trending questions, trending people, trending songs and others.
Part of the statement read, “just as searches help people to explore and discover a world of information, there was many ways to explore the year through the lens of Google search.
“Corona virus was top on everyone’s mind, this year and the pandemic impact is reflected in the Year in Search lists. Pandemic notwithstanding, Nigerians interest in celebrities, music, movies and TV shows showed itself strongly again in the year’s most searched.
“From ‘how to male hand sanitizers’ to ‘Rema’, ‘Betty butter’ and ‘Mulan’, Nigerians use search to explore their world”.
